Governor Kelly Travels to Pittsburg for Seventh ‘The People’s Budget’ Tour Stop
"~~More than 120 Kansans Share Their Thoughts with Governor,
Donate 520 Pounds to Food Drive~~ "
*TOPEKA* – On Monday, Governor Laura Kelly hosted the seventh stop on her statewide listening tour, ‘The People’s Budget’, in Pittsburg. Joined by Adam Proffitt, Director of the Budget/Secretary of the Kansas Department of Administration, and more than 120 Kansans, Governor Kelly’s town hall-style event emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility in the years ahead.
“I was impressed that more than 120 Kansans joined us in Pittsburg Monday evening to discuss their budget priorities,” *Governor Laura Kelly said.* “I appreciated their thoughts on topics ranging from increasing access to a variety of health care services to supporting our teachers and our public schools. Throughout my tour, Kansans have provided invaluable insight that I will use to shape another balanced budget proposal.”
Health care was the most discussed topic in Pittsburg. Kansans expressed to Governor Kelly their desire for funding that supports rural hospitals, boosts access to health care in rural areas, and increases access to substance abuse treatment and mental health care. Other topics discussed include fully funding public education and special education, investing in early childhood initiatives, the impacts tariffs are having on Kansas agriculture, and property taxes.
Governor Kelly has added food drives to each stop on ‘The People’s Budget’ tour in partnership with the Kansas Food Bank and Harvesters – The Community Food Network. In Pittsburg, Kansans donated 520 pounds of non-perishable food items to Wesley House Food Pantry. Kansans planning to donate food at future events can find additional information about in-demand items here [ [link removed] ].
