john,
Mike Johnson has renewed the Republican attacks on the Affordable Care Act, saying he won't commit to holding a vote on whether to continue subsidies that help lower health insurance costs for Americans.
The shutdown may be coming to an end, but there’s still no guarantee that Republicans will negotiate in good faith to help people afford health insurance. They seem inexplicably committed to dismantling the ACA despite its overwhelming popularity with their own constituents.
This is after they voted on the Big, Ugly Bill that kicks millions off their health insurance, slashes Medicaid, and threatens the survival of rural hospitals and hospitals that serve a high number of Medicare and Medicaid patients.
We're already starting to see the effects of this Republican agenda–hospitals are closing, key medical staff are losing their jobs, and Americans are weighing whether they can afford health insurance or whether they should roll the dice and hope no one in their family gets sick or injured this year. It’s time for Members of Congress to stand up for constituents, not billionaires.
To protect and improve our healthcare, we need to take back the House majority next year. Before our mid-month deadline, will you chip in $10 or whatever you can to help me protect my seat so I can continue fighting for affordable, accessible healthcare in Congress? >> [link removed]
This fight is personal to me, john.
As a pediatrician and person with Type 1 diabetes, I understand how life-changing the Affordable Care Act is, both for my patients and other people like me with pre-existing conditions. Tens of millions of people across this country who couldn’t buy insurance on their own before finally have the sense of security that comes with affordable access to insurance and medical care.
Before Trump first tried to repeal the ACA, I had never even considered running for office. But when Congressional Republicans tried to overturn the Affordable Care Act in 2017, I joined with three other doctors from my clinic and met with our former representative’s staff to explain all of the ways the ACA protects people in this district, and why it was so critical. Two days later, our congressman voted to overturn the ACA.
That was the final straw for me, and I decided to put my practice on hold to run against the person who’d just tried to take healthcare away from millions of Americans. I loved working with kids and parents, but I knew the stakes for their families, too.
Since the day I was sworn into Congress, I’ve worked to protect and improve the ACA, lower the cost of prescription drugs, and expand access to healthcare. But Republicans are so fixated on killing the Affordable Care Act that they were willing to withhold SNAP funding to get their way. It is disgusting.
I will always fight to ensure the people of WA-08, and Americans across the country, have access to the care they need, when they need it. But if we want to make more progress to improve our healthcare system, then we need to flip the House blue.
Before our mid-month deadline, will you please chip in to help defend this seat and retake the House majority in 2026? >> [link removed]
Thank you,
Kim
