John —
Sunday night, I voted no on the Republican funding bill to reopen the
government without addressing the healthcare crisis.
The Republicans’ funding bill contained nothing to help people afford
their health insurance.
The bill had nothing to bring down the costs of care or extend healthcare
tax credits.
The bill had nothing in it to help make sure people with preexisting
conditions can afford their health coverage.
The bill had none of that.
When this debate began, I said, I'm not supporting a government funding
bill that doesn't have money for health care in it.
This one didn’t, so I voted no.
John, we owe our
constituents better than this.
The American people deserve a healthcare system they can afford.
We need a system that allows people to join Medicare and receive
high-quality care.
And we certainly can’t afford to make things worse.
Especially after the GOP already broke the system when they passed the Big
Ugly Bill, which took billions and billions of dollars out of Medicaid to
give tax cuts for wealthy people and corporations.
This is about fighting for lower healthcare costs — and only one party is
taking up the mantle for the millions of Americans who are facing a
cost-of-living crisis.
But this fight is also about our democracy. About whether we will stand up
to a corrupt and lawless president hellbent on destroying our democracy
and hurting citizens.
This is a president who went to the Supreme Court to stop food assistance
from going to hungry families and children. I mean, who does that?
John, I will not
stop working to lower costs, make health care more affordable and
accessible, and to stand up to the bully in the White House.
Much more soon,
Adam
