Are you also exhausted by American politics? By the government shutdowns, the stock market corruption, and the way establishment politicians pretend the status quo still works? I know I am.

The political fight is exhausting, but right now, my personal life is too. Snow has already hit Sioux Falls, and the tension is high on whether the house I’m building for my family in the Black Hills will be done in time to move out of our camper before the worst of the South Dakota winter hits.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my 26-year military career, my law school journey, and running for Senate as an Independent while living in a camper, it's this: Success requires trust. Is trust in the contractors to finish my home in a timely manner or trust your representative to look out for you justified?

For too many South Dakotans, the answer to that question is a resounding NO.

When party orders come down from on high, career politicians like Mike Rounds toe the party line to serve billionaires and corporations instead of people. Rounds voted to cut green energy tax credits despite South Dakota being #2 in wind power. He voted to gut public broadcasting that rural South Dakotans rely on for news and weather. He broke your trust.

I don’t take a cent of corporate PAC money. I am running as an Independent to ensure that when my constituents ask, "Will Brian Bengs look out for my community?" the answer will always be YES. I am prepared to be exhausted by the nation’s most pressing issues, so you don’t have to be. I am prepared to fight for regular people so they can afford groceries, healthcare, and a roof over their heads.
