** Senate Minority Leader Schumer is responsible for the shutdown cave. We will hold him accountable.
------------------------------------------------------------
For 40 days and counting, the federal government has been shut down, causing people to experience a gap in government services, including SNAP food assistance that people rely on to eat. Democrats have been demanding a budget that restores food assistance, protects healthcare, and otherwise serves Americans’ needs.
In the Senate, the Minority Leader and Senate Minority Whip are responsible for ensuring Senate Democrats use their power to serve Americans. These senators, Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin respectively, failed in their roles as leaders. They were either unable, or intentionally refused, to keep the Democratic caucus together. After allowing the government shutdown to proceed for weeks, they allowed the Senate Democrats to fold to a deal that MAGA Republicans offered.
At Indivisible SF, we hold Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin responsible for Senate Democrats’ shocking capitulation on the government shutdown.
We demand that our Senators work to relieve these cowards of the leadership duties they have shirked.
As a democratic body, the Democratic Senate Conference has the authority to remove or elect new leadership by majority vote. We are asking our Senators, Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, to bring a letter to the Conference proposing the removal of Senators Schumer and Durbin from leadership, and enact those changes. They will need 24 votes to do this, which we are confident they can find.
We commit to asking Senators Schiff and Padilla to act to remove Schumer and Durbin from leadership, and to watching their progress on this issue.
Contact your Senators ([link removed]) and demand that they take action to remove Schumer and Durbin from leadership.
** Safety Monitor Volunteers Wanted: People Over Billionaires Action on Saturday Nov. 15 at Noon
------------------------------------------------------------
Our friends at Bay Resistance and ACCE are seeking safety monitor volunteers for their People Over Billionaires Action ([link removed]) on Saturday, Nov. 15, 12PM–1PM at Alta Plaza Park. They are also seeking a volunteer interested in being a safety lead. The volunteers will work with the event lead to block streets for a short march and to act as de-escalator during the rally. If you are interested, email
[email protected] (mailto:
[email protected]) to get connected.
** Translators Wanted: Build a Multilingual Indivisible SF
------------------------------------------------------------
Indivisible SF is seeking volunteer members to help translate materials into Chinese, Spanish, and Tagalog.
Indivisible SF is working to become a multilingual organization that reflects the diversity of our city. According to San Francisco’s language diversity data, approximately 151,000 residents ([link removed]) are classified as Limited English Proficient, with Chinese, Spanish, and Tagalog being the most common languages.
We hope to make our communications accessible in these languages and invite more communities to engage in our work. If you are fluent in any of these languages and can regularly help translate written materials or messages, please reach out to us at
[email protected] (mailto:
[email protected]) .
** Reach out to your place of worship about the fight for immigration justice
------------------------------------------------------------
In the fight for immigration justice, it’s important to partner with local community organizations and better understand what people need. One place that is often a community gathering place and sanctuary for many are places of worship—regardless of faith.
We have received feedback about some faith communities interested in getting involved or getting more information on immigration rights. If you are involved in any place of worship and have connections here, please reach out to the best contact there to determine what level of involvement they have in the fight for immigration justice and what support that community would need. This can help us determine what is the best way to partner with local places of worship.
Please share your findings with Rosalie on Slack at @rosalie (preferred) or via email at
[email protected] (mailto:
[email protected]) .
** State of SF Policing and Surveillance: Protect Your Private Right to Sue
------------------------------------------------------------
SF has an ordinance to require law enforcement to get approval from the Board of Supervisors before buying and using new spying technologies. In 2022, the California Legislature passed a law (AB 481, Chiu) imposing similar requirements on police agencies seeking to acquire or use military-grade equipment. So that means SF is surveillance and military equipment-free… right?
And yet, despite AB 481’s requirement for a specific public outreach and approval process, SFPD purchased and began using drones in March 2024 without approval. SFPD suffered no consequences. That same month, the city began installing Automated License Plate Readers throughout the city; since then, SFPD has illegally allowed Georgia and Texas cops to search the city’s license plate reader data. SFPD has punted on further questions and again suffered no consequences.
Now, Sup. Dorsey—with Sups. Mandelman and Sherill cosponsoring—are seeking to nerf the 2019 Anti-Surveillance Law’s private right of action, which allows people to sue the Department after it violates their privacy. In other words: removing the one lever we have to enforce this law when our leaders fail to do so.
Call or email the Mayor and your Supervisor ([link removed]) and let them know you want them to enforce the law, not let SFPD spy on you with impunity.
** Join the Movement for Immigrant Justice: IM4HI Needs Volunteers
------------------------------------------------------------
Step up in solidarity with immigrant and refugee neighbors! Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity (IM4HI) is recruiting new volunteers in several key roles, including interpreters, legal support volunteers, paper sponsors, and housing hosts.
Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, a key Bay Area grassroots immigrant justice organization, is seeking new volunteers to stand with immigrant and refugee communities!
Whether you’re bilingual, passionate about legal support, ready to offer housing, or willing to help free someone from ICE detention, there’s a place for you.
* Want to use your language skills to support immigrant justice? IM4HI partners with Respond Crisis Translation ([link removed]) to train volunteers to interpret with a language justice foundation. Interpret for asylum seekers, at community gatherings, on volunteer teams, and more. Training is offered virtually and volunteers must be bilingual in Spanish or another language other than English. Volunteer interpreters are trained on a rolling basis.
* Pro-Se Legal Support Volunteers: Learn to work directly with clients to help them fill out their asylum application. Training is offered virtually and volunteers must be bilingual in Spanish. To learn more about the program, see [link removed]
* "Paper sponsors" to get out of ICE Detention: ICE requires immigrants to have a sponsor to get out of ICE detention. Use your privilege and be a sponsor. No financial obligation or follow-up care required, just fill out some paperwork and an immigrant gets set free. Join us for an info session (November/Dec) to learn more and hear from others who have already been paper sponsors.
* Housing hosts, Welcoming our Neighbors: Be part of the housing solution for migrants in the San Francisco Bay Area by creating Temporary Housing and safe spaces, Hosted Housing in your home and Temporary Respite Housing in Congregations. Join our Signal group to learn from others with experience as housing hosts!
If you’re interested in any of these opportunities—or know someone who might be—please call the IM4HI office at 510-948-7899 or email them at
[email protected] (mailto:
[email protected]) . Together, we can strengthen the movement for immigrant justice.
** Thanksgiving Boycott: We Ain’t Buying
------------------------------------------------------------
From the No Kings Coalition and Bay Resistance comes We Ain’t Buying It ([link removed]) : a call to boycott Target, Amazon, and Home Depot over the Thanksgiving Weekend and Cyber Monday. This action is taking direct aim at Target, for caving to this administration’s biased attacks on DEI; Home Depot, for allowing and colluding with ICE to kidnap our neighbors on their properties; and Amazon, for funding this administration to secure their own corporate tax cuts.
From Nov. 27 to Dec.1, we ask that our members do the following:
* Full Black Out: Don’t buy anything from Target, Amazon or Home Depot stores during this week. Use the time and money to connect with those you love, and rediscover what matters.
* Redirect Spending: Shop small, local, or with businesses affirming our humanity.
* Recruit Your Friends and Family: Boycotts work best when the whole community joins in. For those who want to learn more, send them to the We Ain’t Buying It ([link removed]) website.
** T-Mobile enables Trump: Use your consumer power and boycott T-Mobile.
------------------------------------------------------------
Stop The Money Pipeline ([link removed]) , a climate-focused organization, are starting a campaign to boycott T-Mobile.
Boycotts work—just ask Target ([link removed]) , Disney ([link removed]) , and Sinclair ([link removed]) . If you are a T-Mobile customer, it's time to flex your consumer power again! Below is Stop the Money Pipeline’s call to action.
Not only is T-Mobile siding with a billionaire CEO who supports far-right authoritarian governments around the world, they’ve also:
* Ended their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program to appease the Trump regime so the admin would fast track approval of two major acquisitions.
* Lobbied for Trump’s disastrous budget bill that will strip 13 million Americans of healthcare to pay for tax cuts for the millionaire and billionaire class.
* Engaged in vicious union busting to stop workers from forming a union.
* Servicing Trump Mobile on the T-Mobile network, ignoring glaring conflicts of interest.
To learn more about boycotting T-Mobile and switching to an alternative, see their website here ([link removed]) .
** The Rhetoric Game: A Guide to Messaging and Debate - Part 2: Commanding the Public Consciousness
------------------------------------------------------------
In order to change the direction of American politics, we need to change the direction of American thought. To do that, we need to use rhetoric effectively. We continue our series on “The Rhetoric Game,” from our August Part 1 ([link removed]) , in our new Part 2, which explores some of the dynamics behind Public Consciousness.

** Tell Airbnb they need to pay their taxes—and you won’t book there until they do
------------------------------------------------------------
Indivisible SF supports the Airbnb boycott. Until they stop their greed, we’re booking elsewhere. Sign on here ([link removed]) .
San Franciscans want a city where all of us can thrive, and tax revenue from businesses located here are crucial to funding a budget that benefits all of us.
Yet the billionaires at Airbnb are aligned with Trump and MAGA, NOT with San Francisco values. Airbnb’s co-founder, Joe Gebbia, is working with DOGE to cut vital services to benefit the ultra-wealthy. Locally, Airbnb is suing the city, refusing to pay the $120 million in taxes they owe, leading to large cuts to services right here in San Francisco. AirBnB’s business model is fueling the housing crisis, using loopholes to take hundreds of units off the market, converting them to “boutique hotels” to avoid short term rental regulations.
Indivisible SF has joined with a coalition of unions and community organizations calling for an economic boycott of Airbnb. Now, individuals can join the boycott. We’ll use our economic power to pressure Airbnb to stop their lawsuit and pay their taxes. Join us to create a flourishing future for all San Francisco residents.
