Tea Is Best Served Hot

Welcome to All* the Tea, our abortion justice newsletter where we give you the good, the bad, and the in-between news about our movement.

Our team has been busy pushing the boundaries of abortion access. Over the last quarter, we've seen movement on several key pieces of our work, which we've highlighted below. I also wanted to take a moment to share some of our plans for the future.

I often track time by the age of my kiddo, who just turned four and, man, what a four years. There's been a 180-degree turn in the federal administration, tectonic shifts in abortion access, including the Dobbs decision, and other court decisions that have resulted in one's access to care very much tied to where they live, how much money they make, and their access to insurance. I've also seen quite a bit of shifts in our movement.

But I still believe in a better future, one we forge together, and I'm all in.

In solidarity,

Nourbese Flint

Be Future Forward.

True abortion justice--where everyone has access to care regardless of who they are, where they're from, or how much money they have--is possible. So let's make it happen. Help us lift authoritarian abortion bans and address social issues that keep us stuck in the past. Give now to keep moving forward.

In the Legislature

Recently several pieces of legislation in California supported by All* have been signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom
-- AB55 (Bonta)--Freedom to Birth Act -- Streamlines the unnecessary licensing requirements for Alternative Birth Centers, that for too long have functioned as barriers to equitable access to perinatal care.
-- AB 260 (Aguiar-Curry)--Increased some aspects of the state's shield law & repealed old, unenforced sections of CA law that were still on the book that could've been used to criminalize abortion care.

In New York, however, three key pieces of legislation are still waiting for Gov. Kathy Hochul's signature:
-- S.4914-B--Shield Law 2.0
-- S.929--The New York Health Information Privacy Act
-- S.3486--Hospital Transparency Act

Trump Watch

Fearing accountability, the Trump Regime has opted out of the United Nations Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the regular audit of a country's compliance with international law.

State and local leaders are stepping up to try to fill the void left by the federal government's inaction. To that end, All* is one of many organizations putting together “The Peoples' UPR,” an event for us to tell the UN HRC the truth of what is happening in our country.

Tell Congress to Support the Abortion Justice Act!

The answer to today’s abortion access is not in 1973. We need bold, innovative and equitable solutions that guarantee the legal right to abortion and ensure that everyone can get abortion care without politicians creating barriers.

For all of our futures, we must pass the Abortion Justice Act to protect our right to make our own healthcare decisions about abortion, improve the availability and affordability of abortion care, and prevent politicians from creating barriers.
