I told you so. Four words no one ever wants to hear, yet at times, are absolutely called for. So, let’s begin the CUFI Action Update
**I Told You So** (ITYS) edition.
Incidentally, it is our sincere hope that this is a one-off, but we suspect it will become a recurring feature.
**ITYS Iran**
In 2015, a CUFI staffer wrote that the Iran deal would lead to war. Less than a decade later that’s exactly what happened. The lessons from the JCPOA disaster are many, but at the end of the day, capitulating to enemies never works. And no matter how hard you try, or how long you hold your breath, one cannot force one’s enemies to embrace western values by sheer force of will (or oratory).
Arrogance is the sin that led to the Iran deal, which led to billions of dollars in Iran’s coffers, which lead to untold death and misery across the Middle East and around the world. The American led deal with Tehran was a failure.
**ITYS Lebanon**
Setting aside the fact that CUFI, and virtually everyone else that’s been paying attention, has been sounding the alarm about the danger posed by Hezbollah for decades, it’s the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) with which we’re concerned in this context.
For years CUFI Action Fund staff have authored op-eds, met with elected officials and their staffs, and even put out a fact-sheet explaining how poor America’s investment has been in the LAF.
We were rebuffed at every turn because, we were told, ‘that’s how it’s always been done,’ or ‘at least we have something there.’ Actually no, we don’t, we didn’t, and we never have.
Beirut super-duper pinky swore that the LAF would disarm Hezbollah and stop their retrenchment in Southern Lebanon. As this Update is being written news has emerged concerning Israeli attacks on Hezbollah positions aimed at reconstituting the terrorist group’s positions in southern Lebanon. The American investment in the LAF is a failure.
**ITYS Antisemitism**
No wanted to hear it when CUFI Action Fund Chairwoman Sandra Parker wrote an op-ed condemning Tucker Carlson’s Jew-hatred. It was too thorny an issue nearly a decade ago when Parker testified before the House Judiciary Committee in support of the Antisemitism Awareness Act.
But since Sen. Cruz spoke at Pastor John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church last month, and the American Axis of Antisemites (Tucker, Candace, and Nick) doubled and tripled down on their hatred, our fears concerning the rise of rightwing fascist antisemitism have come to light.
This said, our response has been vigorous and overwhelming. So much so that Tucker Carlson offered a half-hearted/pseudo (can we even call it an) apology for expressing hatred towards Christian Zionists.
Many in the Conservative movement have finally awoken to the dangers of “woke right” bigotry. From Fox News host Mark Levin to Amb. Mike Huckabee, select individuals of faith and courage are leading the charge against the rise of American neo-fascism.
**We Could Go On…**
We could, of course, go on, given our warnings about Turkey, Qatar, and the like, but given all of the above, it is worth recalling one fundamental truth: Our adversaries are weak because they are driven by hatred, clicks, money and/or the illusion of power. We are strong because we act with a mandate from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. On the darkest day God is with those who stand with Israel.
CUFI’s ability to spot trouble on the horizon is neither prophetic nor unequaled; rather, we see what’s right in front of us because we do not shut our eyes to any part of reality. President Obama shut his eyes to Iran’s evil, administrations from both parties refused to see the LAF’s utter incompetence and terrorist corruption, and numerous conservatives refused to acknowledge that those who espouse Jew-hatred are
**both** engaging in free speech and are vile, contemptible, craven individuals who deserve to be shunned.
All of Washington needs to learn from these mistakes and adjust their behavior accordingly.
Sincerely,
The CUFI Action Fund
