Hello!
Today, on this Veterans Day, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. Every generation of servicemembers has stepped forward to protect our freedoms; their bravery deserves our gratitude and respect.
That’s why so many of us are horrified by Donald Trump's disparagement of American service members by calling fallen and captured troops “suckers” and “losers.” This sparked outrage from veterans, military families, and leaders who said those words cut against everything our country should stand for.
Even more deeply troubling: we’ve seen the Trump Administration send federal forces, including military and military-style units, into American cities to intimidate protesters, and publicly discuss using more troops on U.S. streets. Turning our military into a tool for domestic intimidation threatens the civil liberties our troops were sworn to defend.
Let’s not forget what Donald Trump and his administration did to our military, the very same military that he is sending onto American streets, during the government shutdown. Donald Trump literally wants them to starve. He has even gone so far as to say that states that have had to step up and fulfill the federal government's obligations when it comes to funding SNAP should start clawing back those funds and not fund the program during the shutdown.
On a day when we should be uniting to thank those who served, we should also be standing up for the principle that our armed forces exist to protect the nation, not to be used as a partisan weapon or to bully Americans who speak out.
If you agree that service members deserve honor and that our military must never be a tool of repression, chip in today. Your gift helps us hold elected leaders accountable and protect the values our veterans fought to defend.
Today, we say thank you to everyone who served, and we vow to fight for the freedoms they defended.
With respect and resolve,
