John,

I'm Tiara, a Senior Research Analyst at the Southern Equality Research and Policy Center – a program of the Campaign for Southern Equality. CSE is constantly brainstorming ways to empower people to support LGBTQ+ Southerners however they can. That's why I'm so excited to share that we will be providing another round of grants to support students and early career researchers focusing on the experiences of Southern LGBTQ+ people.

Click here to apply for a Southern Equality Research grant for students or early career researchers – recipients can receive up to $2,000 to support research about LGBTQ+ communities in the South. Applications are due by December 5th. ([link removed])

More than 30% of all LGBTQ+ people in the United States call the American South home, but less than 10% of the social research on this population highlights the experiences of those in the region. The lack of data makes it challenging to craft rebuttals to, articulate the effects of, and secure protections against the attacks on LGBTQ+ people and communities in the South. The Southern Equality Research and Policy Center (SERPC) ([link removed]) developed the Southern Equality Research Grant, now in its second round of funding, to support students and early career researchers as they explore how social problems and discriminatory policies affect the lived experiences of LGBTQ people in the region. This research is especially important as our communities weather relentless attacks on our equality.

These SERPC research grants are open to undergraduate students attending a four-year institution, graduate students enrolled in a master's or doctoral program, and early career researchers. If you are a student or early career researcher conducting research on LGBTQ+ Southerners, please submit your application for a grant by December 5th. ([link removed])

Our whole team is really excited about these grants; we truly love the opportunity to support queer folks and allies doing critical work studying LGBTQ+ communities in the South, and hope you (or people you know!) apply. Please help us spread the word, too, by forwarding this to any researchers you know – you never know if one email could make a big difference in the work folks are able to accomplish this year.

Thanks for all you do,
Tiara Giddings, PhD
