Senate Defeats Schumer-Led Opposition To Opening Government; Funding Bill Heads To House
The government shutdown is another step closer to coming to an end after the Senate voted in favor of a bill to fund the government.
The Senate passed a measure that would fund the entire government through Jan. 30 by a vote of 60 to 40 on Monday night. Thirty-eight Senate Democrat Caucus members, led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., voted against the measure despite the mounting pain the longest government shutdown in U.S. history has caused. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was the only Republican to vote against the measure, while Sen. Bernie Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats, also opposed it.
The funding stopgap measure still has to pass the House of Representatives before it could be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature. Trump has said he would sign it into law.

Some government agencies and initiatives would receive funding for the full fiscal year, including the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the FDA, congressional operations, and construction projects for the military.

Transgenderism is in rapid decline among young Americans, indicating it was a social contagion.
A few weeks ago, I published results from six waves of the massive Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) annual survey of undergraduate students.
The data were unequivocal: the share of students identifying as a gender other than male or female—that is, as non-binary—peaked in 2023 and has halved in the two years since. This is a stunning reversal in the culture that will reverberate through society and politics in the coming years.
The Findings:
The survey captures over 50,000 students per year from nearly 250 leading American universities. Its size guarantees statistical power and enables us to look at small subgroups like trans or queer people. FIRE data is a random sample, a small percentage of each university’s student body, and I wanted to be sure it triangulated with two surveys.

Trump Pardons Dozens of MAGA Allies Accused of Attempting To Overturn 2020 Election
President Donald Trump has pardoned dozens of allies who were accused of attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Pardons apply to former Trump lawyer and New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, former chief of staff Mark Meadows, and Trump ally Sidney Powell.
U.S. Pardon Attorney Ed Martin announced Sunday night that Trump signed a proclamation granting pardons “to all United States citizens for conduct relating to the advice, creation, organization, execution, submission, support, voting, activities, participation in, or advocacy for or of any slate or proposed slate of Presidential electors, whether or not recognized by any State or State official, in connection with the 2020 Presidential Election, as well for any conduct relating to their efforts to expose voting fraud and vulnerabilities in the 2020 Presidential Election.”

The proclamation, which names 77 people, specifically clarifies that Trump is not pardoned by this action.
