DEVELOPING… the Senate has voted 52-45 to overturn protections across millions of acres of lands in the Western Arctic, endangering some of the most ecologically significant wilderness on the planet.

We cannot allow Big Oil to continue to bulldoze and drill in the Arctic.

The move comes on the heels of a corrupt deal that rubber stamps approvals for a project called the Ambler Road Project, which would pave the way for construction of a 200-mile road through some of Alaska’s most wild and pristine places for some speculative mining projects. That deal was only approved after the Trump administration claimed a 10% stake in the Canadian mining company behind it.

The work to protect the Western Arctic continues. Our teams are continuing to build public pressure in Congress, and pushing back against these and other attempts to plunder our lands and waters on behalf of the fossil fuel industry. We need your help to keep this work going:

Republicans are shutting out public input and discarding scientific expertise. The Arctic’s wetlands, tundra, river deltas, and coastal plain are vital not only to our climate’s future, but to an entire way of life. The land is home to wildlife like the Western Arctic Caribou Herd — essential to the survival and cultural heritage of 40 subsistence-based communities in the region.

This is greed and exploitation at its absolute worst, Friend. The truth is, this will be a hard fight — but we cannot and must not stop working to protect these lands.
