Dear Friend,

On Veterans Day, we honor the military heroes that have sacrificed so much for the values we hold dear. I am proud to represent San Antonio, known as Military City, U.S.A., in the U.S. House of Representatives, which has made countless contributions to our nation’s military history. 

To all our veterans in San Antonio—thank you! Thank you for your service and sacrifice to this nation. In Congress, I am committed to making sure veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned and deserve. Today, I renew that vow.

Yesterday, I had the honor of presenting the Purple Heart, one of the highest honors awarded to U.S. service members who have been wounded or killed in battle, to Specialist Alfredo Gutierrez. I also presented six other medals to Specialist Gutierrez, highlighting his military expertise and service to the country. Specialist Gutierrez—on behalf of a grateful nation, thank you.

On November 3rd, my district office attended the 10th annual You Are Not Forgotten Veterans event, honoring our Vietnam War veterans. On November 6th, my district office joined Project MENDSA’s Salute to Our Veterans Celebration and shared with the community ways our office can be helpful.

On November 9th, I had the honor of attending the San Antonio premiere of the documentary American Sons—a powerful tribute to Latino soldiers and their sacrifice to protect our freedoms. The film features a Westside native, Marine Corporal Jorge “JV” Villarreal Jr. and his story exploring grief, resilience, and love. 

Thank you to Latino Public Broadcasting for co-producing the film and to the filmmakers Laura Varela and AndrewJames Gonzales for your efforts telling this important story for the world to see.
