John,
On Veterans Day, I’m reflecting on how grateful I am for the brave service members who have protected and served our country.
Over 1.8 million veterans call California home, but too many of them aren’t getting the care and respect they deserve from the federal government.
Donald Trump has significantly hurt our ability to give our veterans the care they were promised. Cuts at the Department of Veterans Affairs mean that we’re losing many critical health care workers who provide lifesaving care to veterans. And his attempt to dismantle the Department of Education has caused rising wait times to receive GI Bill education benefits.
This is unacceptable. Veterans shouldn’t have to fight through bureaucracy just to get the health care and education they were promised.
This fight is personal to me, John. My brother is a veteran, and I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our service members face when they leave the military. We owe them the very best.
As governor of California, I will make sure we look after our veterans. I’ve gone toe to toe with Trump and his cronies in Washington before—and won. I’ll do it again as governor.
To our veterans: thank you for your service. You deserve leadership that has your back.
Sincerely,
Katie Porter
