Friends and neighbors,
Veterans Day reminds us that freedom is not free. It is paid for through the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States, and by the families who supported them at home.
This day began as Armistice Day in 1919, marking the end of World War I at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. President Woodrow Wilson first called on Americans to pause and remember those who had fought for peace. After World War II and the Korean War, President Dwight D. Eisenhower renamed it Veterans Day to honor all who served.
Minnesota is proud to be home to many veterans who continue to strengthen our communities in countless ways. Their courage, discipline, and patriotism are why America remains free. To every veteran and military family, thank you for your service to our nation. God Bless you all.
