John,

This Veterans Day, I’m grateful for the generations of Americans who have worn our nation’s uniform and defended the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

For me, this day is also personal. My grandfather was a proud Teamster and a combat veteran of World War II. My sister, Courtney, is a U.S. Army veteran who continues to serve her community with pride. And the nonprofit my wife leads works to provide no-cost home repairs to veterans and their families –– ensuring they can live with dignity.

Their stories of dedication and sacrifice inspire me to live a life rooted in service, and to step up to serve our country in a different way.

Here in Miami, we live among families who know firsthand what it means to fight for liberty, and who deeply value the rights and opportunities that define our country.

Every day, but especially today, we honor the veterans who protect our freedoms and the families who stand behind them. As your next congressman, I’ll make sure they have a champion in Washington who fights for them the way they fought for us — by ensuring access to world-class health and mental health care, tackling veteran homelessness with the compassion it deserves, supporting their families both while they serve and when they come home, and so much more. It’s our nation’s solemn obligation to do so.

If you’re a veteran reading this today, know this: I will always have your back.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
