Today, America marks Veterans Day — a day to honor all those who have
stepped up to serve in our nation’s armed forces.

Raising my right hand to join the National Guard was one of the best
decisions I ever made. Serving this country for 24 years was an honor, and
I want to thank every one of you who wears the uniform today.

I’m proud to say that last year Minnesota became the first state in the
nation to build and open three veterans homes simultaneously. These homes,
located in Bemidji, Preston, and Montevideo, will serve nearly 200
veterans needing skilled nursing care as they age.

As long as we have veterans, we have a sacred responsibility to provide
them the support and care that properly honors the sacrifices they make,
and that their families make. Let’s keep up the good work.
