For seven weeks Americans were pawns in political Hunger Games. The government shutdown may be heading toward a resolution — but the message from Republicans couldn’t be clearer.

Trump and his extremist followers in Washington turned food into a weapon. They used SNAP benefits as leverage, holding millions of families hostage just to force through their cruel, anti-working class budget.

And when it mattered most, eight Democratic Senators caved to Republican pressure, essentially gutting affordable healthcare and stifling the momentum building from last week’s major election wins.

This is the same playbook we’re seeing across the globe — like in Gaza, where food and aid were withheld to break the will of the people. The weaponization of hunger is a tool of control. It’s not policy — it’s cruelty.

We can’t let this stand.

Food is a right, not a bargaining chip. Democracy means dignity, and no one should go hungry while politicians posture.
