Minnesota Senator Eric Lucero banner image

Dear friends and neighbors,

We dedicate Veterans Day to pause, reflect, and honor the men and women who’ve worn our nation’s uniform and the courage and sacrifice of their service. We live under the banner of liberty because dedicated patriots stepped forward willing to defend.

We owe all veterans more than words of thanks. We owe them our gratitude, our respect, and our effort to make sure their service is never forgotten.

I encourage each of us to take a moment to reach out to a veteran. Thank them. Listen to their story. Let them know their service matters and that it continues to inspire all of us.

God bless our veterans, their families, and our great Republic!

Fraud Continues

Background: The nonpartisan Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) recently released a report exposing widespread mismanagement inside Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan’s offices. The audit covered July 1, 2022, through December 31, 2024, and found that the governor’s office “generally did not comply” with basic criteria tested by the OLA.

Auditors identified twelve separate findings of noncompliance, including inaccurate pay, missing receipts, late vendor payments, and untracked state property. Even more troubling, several of these same problems were flagged in past audits and still have not been fixed.

When a state office cannot even manage receipts, payroll, or simple documentation, it shows a culture of neglect that filters through every level of government. This same lack of accountability has allowed fraud and waste to spread across multiple state programs during the Walz administration.

Why It Matters: Minnesotans expect their tax dollars to be used responsibly. When leadership ignores the basics of financial management, fraud becomes inevitable. Every small business in our state understands the importance of balancing the books, tracking receipts, and paying bills on time. The Governor’s Office should be held to at least the same standard.

The failure to follow basic procedures doesn’t just waste money—it destroys public trust. Minnesotans deserve a government that protects their tax dollars, not one that shrugs off responsibility and repeats the same mistakes year after year.

What I’m Doing About It: I remain committed to restoring integrity and accountability in state government. I continue to advocate for stronger oversight, full transparency in how agencies handle taxpayer dollars, and clear consequences when officials fail to meet their basic duties.

The culture of carelessness must end. Minnesota families balance their budgets, track their receipts, and live within their means. State government should do the same.

I will keep fighting for transparency, fiscal responsibility, and the constitutional values that protect the public’s trust and ensure every dollar is spent wisely.

Joint Powers Water Board Bonding Project

Background: Access to clean and reliable water is a fundamental need for every family, business, and farm. The cities of St. Michael, Albertville, and Hanover are all facing increasing demands on aging water systems that were never designed to meet today’s population growth or updated safety standards. Existing wells, treatment facilities, and distribution lines are reaching capacity, and maintenance costs continue to climb.

Why It Matters: Without investment, these communities will struggle to maintain safe drinking water and adequate supply for homes, schools, and local businesses. Water infrastructure isn’t just about convenience, it’s about protecting public health, supporting local jobs, and ensuring our communities can continue to grow responsibly. Strong infrastructure keeps property values stable and helps attract new investment, keeping our region competitive and vibrant.

What I’m Doing About It: I’m working to secure $11 million in state bonding funds dedicated to critical water infrastructure improvements in St. Michael, Albertville, and Hanover. This funding will help replace outdated equipment, expand treatment capacity, and ensure consistent access to safe, clean water for decades to come. These are practical, necessary investments that directly improve the quality of life for local residents.

Minnesotans deserve a government that prioritizes essential infrastructure and uses taxpayer dollars wisely. I’ll continue advocating for our communities to ensure these projects receive the attention and support they deserve.
