[link removed] [[link removed]] John,Last month, we told you that we sued the Trump administration for unlawfully creating secret databases that consolidate sensitive personal information across federal agencies. Now we have an update for you, John:
The Trump administration is reportedly going to continue adding to the SAVE database, which states are using to purge voter rolls.
According to a ProPublica report, federal officials have not finished adding data to the Department of Homeland Security’s SAVE system. Next up is driver’s license data from states across the country.
John, this is illegal . The Trump administration is giving states a faulty tool to target and silence eligible voters. And it’s a direct threat to our democracy.
That’s why CREW and our partners sued the Trump administration to ensure it complies with the law and we’re taking action to protect Americans’ voting rights. If you’re with us, please donate to support CREW and join the fight for accountability → [[link removed]]

Before this year, the Department of Homeland Security’s SAVE system only contained information on immigrants who’d had contact with the agency.
Our lawsuit alleges that the administration unlawfully transformed the SAVE system into a national citizenship database, pooling Social Security Administration data known to be unreliable.
Now, some states are using that data to purge voter rolls, meaning that eligible citizens may be improperly removed from rolls and even investigated.
ProPublica reported that a growing number of states are signing agreements with DHS to use SAVE to vet voter rolls. Going into 2025, 10 states had signed these agreements and as of July, an additional 10 states have signed.
This unlawful data consolidation isn’t just a massive privacy and security risk—it also threatens to disenfranchise eligible voters. But rather than backing off, it appears that the Trump administration is doubling down and adding even more personal data.
CREW is taking action on behalf of millions of Americans to hold the Trump administration accountable for its illegal overreach and protect Americans’ civil liberties and voting rights.
We filed a lawsuit seeking to block the administration’s efforts to operate these systems. We’re not backing down in our fight to hold the Trump administration accountable for its abuses of power and defend the privacy and voting rights of Americans across the country.
