Dear Friend, This Veterans Day, we commemorate with solemn gratitude American service members and their commitment to our democracy.
A century ago, my mother’s grandparents arrived in Greater Boston, fleeing the pogroms in Ukraine just before World War I. They started a business and a family in Chelsea. Their son, my grandfather, joined the Marines after Pearl Harbor.
He believed in America – and America believed in him. He had no money, but he was sharp, and the Corps sent him to school to learn engineering and medicine. He went on to pioneer the development of the prosthetic limb. |
