Moments ago, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a cruel and sweeping
measure that effectively outlaws abortion in the state of Tennessee, even
boasting that it’s "the most conservative, pro-life piece of legislation
in the country."^1
The extreme law, which moved through the legislature under the cover of
darkness, has already been challenged in court and the abortion bans in
the law have been temporarily blocked — at least for now. But we can’t
waste any time.^2
Anti-choice, anti-freedom politicians are passing these bills with the
explicit intention of getting a case in front of the anti-choice majority
on the Supreme Court. It’s not surprising that this bill was signed just
14 days after the Supreme Court left the door open to these attacks in its
decision in June Medical Services, LLC v. Russo.

campaign to strip away reproductive freedom from every angle, in every

Republican state Senator Mike Bell said the Tennessee legislation was
specifically crafted to give the state “multiple shots” at ending Roe v.
Wade.^3 And an official for the governor’s office said that the bill was
structured to allow them to “play both the long game and the short game”
