Dear Friend,
About an hour ago, a bipartisan vote in the Senate killed Rand Paul’s amendment to strip from the new spending bill the Delta-8/Hemp ban that so many of us have eyed for years.
That means that we have secured the biggest marijuana policy victory in our history—and arguably the most significant piece of legislation on this issue in more than five decades.
So from the bottom of my heart, I want to say Thank You. Thank You for writing, calling, wrangling, and hounding your elected officials to do the right thing. It worked!
I want to especially show gratitude to our team who led this effort. More than six years ago, after the Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived intoxicants, our head of government affairs, Garth Van Meter helped implement the vision of prohibiting these items all together. And now Jordan Davidson, who many of you know, used his tenacity—fueled in large part by his own recovery—to bring this home. But it wasn’t just SAM or our Parent Action Network. So many of our national allies and friends, like CADCA, AALM, Every Brain Matters, IASIC, and others had a big hand in this. Together, we proved that we could beat back the multibillion-dollar marijuana industry—an industry that has shown no regard for health and safety with their exploitation of this loophole allowing the sales of these dangerous intoxicants for profit.
