The 40-day government shutdown was a failure of common sense. But more importantly, it was a profound failure of elected leadership.

They shut down the federal government—putting thousands of people at risk—and then restarted it over a month later with no changes to the system.

What was the point? What are we even doing?

The problem is staring us in the face: Both parties are broken.

In Idaho, the federal government is the state's third-largest employer. Over 13,000 workers at the VA, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of the Interior were put under massive strain. Rural communities, where food assistance is heavily relied upon, were hit hardest. This chaos has hurt folks in every corner of our state.

This recklessness is what happens when leaders like Jim Risch are disconnected from working families. After 47 years in office and a net worth of $55 MILLION, Risch is the epitome of the swamp.

He and his party bosses show fealty to corporate donors, not the people who elected them. Together, they’ve built a system that rewards wealth and connections instead of work and character. It’s clear that neither a Democrat nor a Republican can stop this cycle that hurts Idaho every single time. That’s why an Independent is needed to get back to fighting for working people.
