When Trump was re-elected, I knew we couldn’t just dust off the old playbook and call it a day. We needed to channel our anger, fear, and frustration into a sustained nonviolent movement that would root out authoritarianism for good.
That’s why I started the Resistance Lab. And in less than a year, tens of thousands of people from every single state have attended one. They’ve learned from experts what it takes to beat authoritarianism, how to organize their neighbors, build strong coalitions, and take on injustice nonviolently. It’s a really unique and deep training, and people come out of it inspired and ready to act and build momentum to reach the scale we need in every community across the country.
These trainings have gotten big, with thousands of people online in each one from all 50 states. We have utilized special technology that allows people to break into small groups, even virtually, and people love this! It means we get out of our silos, and someone from California talk to someone from Florida or Texas. It means we connect across our geographies and build our understanding, skills and momentum. It gives us all HOPE and a game plan so we’re not waiting for someone else to tell us what to do.
All that technology is not cheap—nor is the work it takes to put on the training and get people to sign on. Each one costs about $10,000 in hard costs—and that doesn’t include our staff time.
And John, I’ve been funding all of this through my campaign because I know how important it is and I’m committed to it no matter what. I’m one of very few members of Congress who actually uses my campaign to build the people’s power through this kind of grassroots organizing, and I do it because I believe it’s working. But to keep it up, I need your help.
