Yesterday’s deal to reopen the government was a bad deal for North Carolina.

Let’s be clear: this fight was about protecting the ACA subsidies that make healthcare affordable for millions of Americans, including so many right here in this district.

Instead, the Senate agreed to move forward on the Republicans’ terms — trading away leverage for a promise of a future vote from the same people who refused to negotiate for over a month.

North Carolinians deserve better than empty promises. We deserve leaders who will stand firm when it counts — who will fight for working families.

I’m not backing down. I promise to keep pushing every day to protect the ACA, defend these critical, life-saving subsidies, and make sure every family can afford to see a doctor without fearing the cost.

I’m hopeful that the next time I reach out, it’ll be with better news — because I’m not giving up, and I know you aren’t either.
