Call Governor Cuomo at 877-235-6537 and tell him: "Stop the North Brooklyn Pipeline, and make National Grid select the 'no infrastructure' energy option instead!"
In May, New Yorkers scored an enormous victory, defeating the Williams NESE fracked gas pipeline that had been proposed for NY Harbor. However, corporate utility National Grid is proposing a “backup plan” to the rejected Williams NESE pipeline, and their backup plan is riddled with dirty fossil fuels. Part of their plan includes speeding up construction of the Metropolitan Reliability Infrastructure project, called the North Brooklyn Pipeline by local residents. The North Brooklyn Pipeline is currently under construction in Brownsville and Bushwick, and is destined for Williamsburg and Greenpoint. The pipeline is dirty, dangerous, and commits New York to higher utility rates and decades of climate destroying methane. This fracked gas pipeline is being built through Black and Brown communities who are raising their voices to stop the injustice. Local organizations are fighting to keep yet another environmental burden out of their neighborhoods.
Call Governor Cuomo at 877-235-6537 and tell him to stop the North Brooklyn Pipeline, and make National Grid choose the 'no infrastructure' energy option instead!
The 'no infrastructure' option is the only one that aligns with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and has 3 components:
• energy efficiency in the form of home weatherization;
• demand response like timers on thermostats and other means of cutting peak demand;
• electrification, which means heat pumps (renewable heat equipment) for space and hot water heating and efficient electric appliances, such as induction stoves, for cooking.
Please share the Call Cuomo Facebook event throughout your networks and your other social media platforms this week. Please help us get 100s of calls to Governor Cuomo this week. We must get the Governor's attention, and we must stop this pipeline!
We send our love and solidarity to you during these trying times, and we encourage you to reach out to us if you need anything.
