Good afternoon,
Today, we commemorated the solemn anniversary of the tragic sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. On this date 50 years ago, this ship sunk to the bottom of Lake Superior during a very violent storm. Of the 29 men who lost their lives, 2 of them were from Minnesota, Thomas Borgeson and Nolan Church.
You may have heard the now popular song ""The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"," by Gordon Lightfoot. Lightfoot spoke with the Minnesota Historical Society about the piece shortly before his passing, reflecting on its lasting impact. If you aren't familiar with the history of the ship and its tragic end, you can learn more on the Minnesota Historical Society's website [ [link removed] ] and in this interview with Lightfoot [ [link removed] ] himself. In memorial, the Historical Society is livestreaming a program and lighting a beacon [ [link removed] ] at Split Rock Lighthouse, which started at 4:00pm.
In St. Paul, Rep. Rick Hansen and I commemorated the anniversary by reading a resolution [ [link removed] ] on the House floor. The resolution, pictured below, recognized the immense loss of 50 years ago, along with the history of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. It was an honor to be a part of this solemn remembrance and reflect on this tragic day.

Happy Veterans Day
Tomorrow is Veterans Day, a day on which we honor the brave men and women who have served our nation with courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Their commitment to protecting our freedoms and defending our country is something we can never take for granted. Across Minnesota, families, communities, and organizations are coming together to recognize those who wore the uniform and to thank them for their service. I encourage everyone to take a moment today to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families, and to show appreciation not just today, but every day, for those who have given so much for our country.
Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and courage to fight for our country.

250th Anniversary of the Marine Corps
Also today, we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps, founded on November 10, 1775. For nearly two and a half centuries, the Marines have stood at the front lines of our nation’s defense, showing courage, discipline, and honor in every mission. I am deeply grateful to all who have served in the Marine Corps, past and present, for their dedication to protecting our country and preserving the freedoms we cherish.
