Dear John,
Last week, voters in New Jersey, Virginia, California, and across the country could not have been any more clear in saying that when it comes to the shutdown and healthcare funding, they stand with Democrats.
But less than a week later, Democratic Senators broke ranks to line up with Republicans to re-open the government WITHOUT any guarantees on Obamacare funding (or anything else for that matter.)
Why? Maybe it had something to do with the FAA having to restrict private jet travel at major airports.
But that doesn’t mean this was all for nothing. Think about what we accomplished here.
We, the grassroots, actually made Chuck Schumer and his Senate Democrats show some backbone for once. In a surprise to only Chuck Schumer, it actually worked. The country rallied in support of Democrats because they were finally fighting to hold Trump accountable and keep healthcare costs down. That fight was overwhelmingly rewarded at the ballot box. But, with the election behind them, eight senators who don’t have to worry about re-election anytime soon, if at all, caved to corporate pressure.
So what do we do now? How do we preserve our hard-fought wins while still holding these sellouts accountable?
We come together, we get organized, and we go out and win the next race.
For now, we have our sights set on Tennessee, where early voting for a critical House seat opens on Wednesday.
