Yesterday, during a debate in the race for the Texas Attorney General, I reiterated my pledge to make the Texas AG's Office work for Texans: going after political corruption, protecting consumers from scams and price gouging, and acting as a xxxxxx against Trumpism and MAGA.
I also talked about **what it will take to win in November**: battle-tested toughness, leadership experience, and the ability to win.
John, I have stood up to Republican extremism on the Texas Senate floor for the last seven years. I have done the hard work to successfully expand healthcare access, strengthen our energy grid and protect the environment, and generate economic opportunity in Texas.
I also have a proven track record of winning tough elections, having flipped a state senate district from red to blue by persuading voters of all political stripes. Our polling shows we have strong path to victory, and I know we can win this together.
My Republican opponent, regardless of which Paxton look-alike wins their primary, will have nearly unlimited resources to campaign across the state.
The reassuring thing is that they are saddled with a bad message and a worse legacy. And yes, Democrats have the momentum now. **But we cannot take anything for granted. We cannot count solely on a "wave" to usher forth Democratic victories in 2026.** Our campaign must compete across the entire state, and Texas is one of the most expensive states to run a statewide campaign in.
