Last night, Congress voted to advance a resolution to reopen the government that, once again, prioritized the fascist Republican agenda over the needs of working families.

And it only passed because eight Democratic Senators folded.

Let’s be clear about what this resolution does if it passes tonight: it hands Republicans yet another win without guaranteeing that lifesaving ACA healthcare assistance people need will be protected.

This is an indefensible failure of leadership.

I didn’t come to Congress to play political games or settle for half-measures that leave working people behind. After the massive Democratic wins in last Tuesday’s elections, the message from voters couldn’t be clearer: you want us to fight, not cave to Republican pressure.

That’s why I’ll be voting NO if the resolution comes to the House.

Too many in Washington still don’t get it. If we are going to defeat fascism and deliver for working families, we must become an opposition party that fights like our lives depend on it — because they do.

I’ll never settle for less than what we all deserve — but I need you with me. I will never bow down to Washington insiders or corporate interests because I am accountable to the communities that sent me to Congress. It is your grassroots support that gives me the courage to fight in Washington.
