John, last night's Senate vote makes it plain. We’re not just fighting Republicans. We’re clearly fighting for better Democrats — the kind who have a backbone, who lead with courage, who do what’s right even when it’s not easy.

Disappointment doesn’t begin to describe what I’m feeling.

I know many of you went to the polls on Tuesday to vote out the status quo. It’s painful to see that despite millions upon millions of voters making their voices heard, despite every contest being a referendum on Trump, his enablers, and their agenda of chaos, some of our elected officials still haven’t gotten the message.

It was also a test for Democrats — a measure of what voters expect from their leaders, and who they’re willing to stand behind.

We want brave leaders. We want bold leaders. We want this government shutdown to end, but not at the expense of working people and families who are struggling to make ends meet.

So when 8 Democrats joined Republicans to vote for Trump’s “resolution” — one that could double or even triple healthcare premiums for more than 20 million Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act — it felt like betrayal.

Democrats need to understand there are real consequences when they fail to stand up to Trump. People aren’t just numbers or statistics; these are lives on the line. Lives that depend on their elected officials to fight for them.

So hear me loud and clear when I say this: JanePAC will always support candidates who have the courage to confront Donald Trump, and the powers and profiteers that enable him. That’s why we back candidates who show, not just say, that they’re ready to lead:

  • Will they legislate with their communities in their hearts?
  • Are they brave enough to stand up to Trump and Big Oil?
  • Will they fight like hell for the people and our planet when it counts the most?

The fact that we even have to ask ourselves these questions is precisely why, at the age of 87, I have no plans of slowing down.

Change is coming. I know it’s hard to believe that right now, but we’re putting Republicans AND Democrats on notice. We will never stop fighting for a government that serves people. Not power, not profit, not fear, but the very beginning of our Constitution: We the people.

In solidarity,

Jane Fonda
