Dear AFGE Member,
Last night,
the Senate voted to advance a continuing resolution (CR) that would reopen the
government through January 30. The legislation also blocks the Trump
administration from carrying out mass reductions-in-force through the end of
the CR.
Today, I
urged the House of Representatives to pass the legislation, and
for President Trump to sign it immediately.
Federal
employees have been used as leverage in this ongoing political fight for too
long. It’s not right. And we need to put a stop to it for good.
That is why
AFGE is urging Congress to pass the bipartisan Shutdown Fairness Act (S. 3168),
which would ensure that all federal employees — whether you’re working or
furloughed — are paid during future government shutdowns. This means that
federal employees would never be used as political pawns in a hostile hostage
situation, again.
I am asking
every AFGE member to contact your senators and
urge them to vote yes on the Shutdown Fairness Act to ensure that federal
employees livelihoods aren’t hanging in the balance while Congress plays
political games.
I know that
times are tough and that members are hurting. I want to thank every single AFGE
member for continuing to show up every day to provide essential services to the
American people. Always know that AFGE will always fight in the best interests
of our members. AFGE will always have your back.
In
solidarity,
Everett
Kelley
AFGE National President
