Hi friend — Last night, the Senate passed a plan that will end the government shutdown this week.

The plan allows Trump to hike premiums for those on Affordable Care Act health care plans and force millions to go without health insurance.

I want to be clear about this: I voted no.

Since October 1st, I’ve voted no 15 times to stop Republicans from ripping health care away from tens of millions of people. That’s not budgeting — that’s cruelty. With families already crushed by rising costs under Trump’s failed agenda, we should be expanding health care, not gutting it.

I’m running for reelection to the Senate because we need Democrats who will stare down the far-right and deliver real results for working people.

I was one of the first Senators to come out in favor of ending the filibuster during Biden’s presidency so we could finally address the minimum wage, voting rights, the climate crisis, and more.

I was the one who introduced legislation to expand the Supreme Court after the GOP used stolen seats to overturn Roe v. Wade and protect Trump from prosecution.

I was the first Democrat to introduce the Green New Deal in the Senate and fight for a sweeping approach to climate action that meets the urgency of the crisis.

And most recently, I proudly supported California’s efforts to rebalance the House battleground after Republicans gerrymandered Texas’ House districts to the moon and back.

Friend — Trump and the Republicans have shattered every norm and expectation. We can’t rely on the old rulebook in the face of authoritarianism.

That’s why I voted no. That’s why I fought to hold the line for Americans’ healthcare, despite this shutdown becoming the longest in history. And that’s why, even now, I’m going to continue to fight for Democrats to use every tool available to win.

If you agree: Please, join my campaign for reelection and help ensure that Massachusetts has a Senator who will always fight for what’s right, even when the going gets tough. Join a nationwide movement to continue to put pressure on Trump’s failed administration.

Make a contribution and become part of our grassroots movement against authoritarianism and the rule of the billionaire class. Trump may be dead set on cutting health care, but we can make sure the voters make him pay.

In our darkest moments we have to remember what we’re fighting for. A better future is still possible — but only if we turn our anger into action and let it fuel us for the long fight ahead.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
