Write a letter to Mayor Lurie demanding an ambitious ballot measure to fund Muni

The Muni Now, Muni Forever (MNMF) campaign is asking riders to join in writing letters to San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, demanding a winnable, fair, and ambitious ballot measure to fund Muni.

San Francisco's transit system (Muni) is facing a $322 million annual deficit starting in 2027. If left unaddressed, this will have devastating effects on riders across the community. Local riders could lose bus lines and see remaining bus lines become even more overcrowded, with service ending at 9 pm each night.

The Muni Now, Muni Forever (MNMF) campaign has pushed for a measure on the San Francisco November 2026 ballot that would complement an additional regional transit ballot measure. Advocates applaud Mayor Lurie for taking leadership and proposing a parcel tax to help fill the deficit. However, it is important that this measure goes all the way to prevent service cuts, grow service, and advance equity.

The letter demands that the transit measure meet these four principles:

  1. Generate enough revenue to grow current service by 10% so we can have less crowded buses and more buses where we need them the most.
  2. Be structured fairly, with a variable rate so smaller properties pay less and larger properties pay more.
  3. Wherever possible, do not pass through additional costs to tenants.
  4. Scale with inflation and rising costs so the money from this measure will keep pace with inflation, and we will have the same value in transit hours in ten years as we do next year.
Send a letter here.

Continue to take action! Tell Mayor Lurie: Prioritize Climate Action Plan goals as you restructure city government

San Francisco must get serious about implementing the Climate Action Plan and moving forward with greater urgency toward our climate goals. Rather than relying on precarious funds and programs that need to be fought for every budget cycle, Mayor Lurie must commit to a dedicated organizational structure (e.g., an Office of Climate Action) that is consistently funded and given the authority to coordinate CAP implementation across all city departments, and that will report directly to the mayor.
