Hi John,

I’m here, at COP30 Belém, Brazil – as the world's biggest climate conference is officially underway.

With you by our side, we’ve already achieved some key steps forward in the past few weeks, but the biggest fights are yet to come. When the time comes to act and make our collective voice heard, I hope I can call on you, John. You’ve stood by our movement, and thanks to you, we’re going into these talks with momentum. I want to share how we’ve delivered vital progress together.

The stakes for global climate action have never been higher. I'm closely watching the negotiations over the next two weeks to keep you updated on every breakthrough and every betrayal, as it happens.

The EU Stepped Up (ish…)

We’ve sent thousands of emails, messages and letters to EU leaders and the Commissioner for Climate Change over the last year.

Thanks to that pressure, the EU has agreed to a climate goal that cuts emissions by 90% by 2040. It's not perfect and includes some dangerous loopholes, which we’re going to need to challenge.

But, it sends a crucial signal to the world that we must act, and it proves that our pressure is working.

Now, the EU must come prepared to discuss the need to scale up fair funding and to help communities accelerate their clean energy transition and adapt to the climate crisis.

We’re Pushing Brazil in the Right Direction

I watched Brazilian President Lula’s opening speech as he pushed the need to speed up the transition away from coal, oil and gas to renewable energy and end our dependence on fossil fuels. This was exactly what we have asked for in our actions targeting Brazil over the last two years. Thank you for being part of it.

Lula’s powerful words about justice must be matched by action – there is a deep contradiction in calling for climate protection while approving new oil drilling in the Amazon. We need to push leaders to deliver concrete commitments.

Our team is on the ground in Belém, Brazil, making sure our movement is represented, right inside the negotiation rooms, challenging contradictions and pushing for true climate ambition.

We are also directly supporting Indigenous Peoples and those on the front lines of the climate crisis, whose voices are the moral compass of these negotiations.

I’ll be here, bringing you updates and opportunities to impact the negotiations as they happen. Thank you for being a part of our team. At times, progress is slow, but we are moving forward together.

This is the critical moment. So, if you're able to, please chip in $10 – or whatever you can – to help us cover the costs of influencing negotiations, shutting down loopholes, and amplifying the voices of those who matter most.

Chip in $10 to power our COP30 team

In solidarity and with determination,

Andreas for 350.org from COP30 in Belém, Brazil
