Email from Los Angeles Police Protective League Daily News & Updates Suspect disarms Florida deputy at traffic crash, fatally shoots him When Devin Jaramillo joined the police force, he did so following in his father’s footsteps — a longtime Miami-Dade County officer who served the community for nearly three decades. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he studied criminal justice, Jaramillo began his career with the Coral Gables Police Department, serving nearly four years before joining the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office in 2024. “He’s what we call a legacy kid, because his father was on the job for so many years,” Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said at a Saturday news conference. Jaramillo’s life and service were cut short on Friday when he was gunned down at 27 years old while responding to a vehicle crash in Southwest Miami-Dade — leaving his colleagues devastated and the agency he worked for searching for answers. He was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he died. NBC 4 Kentucky AG asks court to overrule governor, authorize execution for convicted killer of 2 LEOs Kentucky’s attorney general has asked a court to overrule the governor and sign a death warrant for an inmate convicted of killing a sheriff and a deputy in Powell County more than 30 years ago. The inmate in question is Ralph Baze, a now-70-year-old man who was sentenced to death by a jury in 1994. In June, Attorney General Russell Coleman asked Gov. Andy Beshear to sign a death warrant for Baze, but the governor cited legal reasons and has not signed the warrant. Beshear has said the state has not gone through the full regulatory process and lacks the drugs necessary to carry out an execution. But on Friday, Coleman announced that he filed a motion in Franklin Circuit Court asking the court to overrule Beshear, saying there is no impediment to the governor’s signing of a death warrant. “Respectfully, the governor is wrong,” Coleman wrote in his filing. “But because he has rejected the attorney general’s legal advice, only the judicial branch can settle this dispute.” Kentucky has had a pause on lethal injections since 2010, when Franklin Circuit Court Judge Phillip Shepherd ruled that executions should be prohibited for several reasons, including the state’s lack of an automatic stay for intellectually disabled death row inmates, and changes to legal injection protocols. Starting next week, health officials will conduct inspections at tobacco shops and other retailers. If they find kratom or 7-OH products, the items will be red-tagged and must be removed from sale. If stores fail to comply, the Public Health Department could seize the products or destroy the items.
