🚨 RENT STABILIZATION ORDINANCE HITS FULL CITY COUNCIL 🚨 ALL OUT TO CITY HALL
|
Wednesday, November 12 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
|
After years of organizing, we've finally moved the City Council to consider updating the LA Rent Stabilization Ordinance (LARSO) — and now's the time to push them to approve a rent control formula that truly protects working people. On Wednesday, November 12, the entire LA City Council will vote on the updated RSO formula! Now it's time to go all out to get it over the line and cap the rent at 3%!
Why This Matters:
- LA's rent control formula hasn't been updated in nearly 40 years.
- The current formula allows rent hikes that far outpace inflation, pushing more tenants into crisis.
- LARSO must be changed immediately to cap rent increases, remove unfair add-ons for utilities or extra tenants, and eliminate the floor that forces automatic rent hikes — even when inflation is low.
- LA's housing crisis won't wait. We need a new rent formula before July to stop more working Angelenos from being displaced.
Here's what you can do:
📍 In-Person Rally & Public Comment Wednesday, Nov. 12 – Arrive by 8:00 am (comment begins at 10 am) Los Angeles City Hall – Room 340 200 N Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Sign up to speak at the kiosk outside the room
📝 Submit a Written Public Comment Online Can't attend in person? Submit your comment online in minutes here: https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/?cfnumber=23-1134 (Council File Number: 23-1134 – Rent Stabilization Ordinance)
🗣️ What to Say? Keep it short, clear, and passionate. Share your story if you can, or use one of our sample scripts and talking points here.
This is a huge opportunity to win a major victory for the working class of Los Angeles — but only if we turn out. Whether you show up in person or submit online, let's do everything we can to keep the rent down!

Tenant Worker Solidarity March: People Over Billionares
|
November 15 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
|
Join us on November 15th at 12pm for the third annual Tenant Worker Solidarity March. This year our theme is People over Billionaires!
This year, our city has been besieged by fire storms, rapacious corporate giants trying to keep our wages low, a federal occupation and attack upon our multiracial democracy, and rising costs of living that necessitate an organized response from working people around demands for stronger labor and tenant protections, and a city that works for the people who make it run.
We are convening workers across industries to demand an end to the ICE raids, the passage of stronger rent control and tenant protections, greater workplace protections, and the Olympics New Deal.

Power and the Politics of Enforced Disappearances
|
Wednesday, November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
|
The current political climate in the US has given rise to a form of political violence long favored by authoritarian dictators in Latin America – enforced disappearances. From Chile and Argentina to Colombia and El Salvador, nearly every country in Latin America experienced the horror of "los desaparecidos" over the course of the 20th century. What drove the proliferation of this practice, and what was the United States' relationship to it?
In this in-person educational event we will introduce the history of enforced disappearances and delve into both contemporary and historical political analysis to understand what the sudden appearance of this specific form of state terror here in the US means.
The event will feature a short presentation and an interactive discussion. Comrades are encouraged to review the following readings as foundation for discussion at the event:
