John,
First: more than 74% of Mainers voted to end Super PACs , passing a commonsense law that limits contributions to so-called “independent expenditure” PACs to $5,000 a year.
Then: two Super PACs sued to block the law. And a federal district court sided with them, wrongly ruling that billionaires and corporations have a “right” to buy our elections.
Now: Free Speech For People has filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, on behalf of Mainers For Working Families, to defend the people’s victory and restore Maine’s right to protect its democracy.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. If we win, it could lead to the abolition of super PACs nationwide.
But to see this through, we need your help. Will you chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can to support this fight? [[link removed]]
For more than a decade, Free Speech For People has served as a leading force in the fight to abolish super PACs. Your donation powers our legal team as we take on entrenched monied interests and defend the will of Maine voters and millions of Americans who believe our elections shouldn’t be for sale.
Together, we can fight for a democracy that works for all of us, one case at a time.
In solidarity,
John Bonifaz
President, Free Speech For People
