Eight Senate Democrats just voted to advance a funding deal that would reopen the federal government and fully fund SNAP for the rest of the year, but let Affordable Care Act subsidies expire.
Let me be clear about what this means. It’s exactly what Republicans wanted all along. And if these subsidies aren’t renewed, health insurance premiums will skyrocket for millions of working families who are already stretched thin.
After the longest shutdown in our country’s history, folks are still not getting the relief they need. Families can’t wait. They can’t afford another hike in their health care bills, and they shouldn’t have to.
I’m frustrated and disappointed. Democrats cannot let the Trump Administration steamroll Congress into cutting taxes for billionaires at the expense of working people. That’s not how we do things in Minnesota, and it’s not how we should do things anywhere.
