During oral arguments in a Louisiana redistricting case last month, conservative justices on the Supreme Court signalled their willingness to overturn Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act — a provision that bans racial discrimination in voting. If this provision is overturned, Republicans across the country would redraw congressional maps, and silence voters who may not agree with them. I can think of nothing in our democracy that is more sacred or precious than the right to vote. That’s why we must act to defend our voting rights from this threat and protect this vital foundation of our Republic. Please, sign my petition today and stand with me to protect the Voting Rights Act →
Since the Supreme Court’s 2013 Shelby decision, nearly two dozen states have implemented restrictive voting laws, closed polling locations, and used other means to suppress minority voting. We should be strengthening our democracy and ensuring clean, fair elections. Democracy means by the people, for the people. But the Supreme Court could take us even further backwards.
