It’s time for our third and final membership drive of the year, but I want to make this one a bit…weirder.
Normally, every four months or so, I write to free Off Message subscribers offering a year-long 40 percent membership discount. Take it or leave it. This time, I want to give you more options. Through the end of the week, subscribers like you will have a range of discounts to choose from, and I’ll leave it to you to decide whether to max out or not.
There’s no catch here! Subscribers who choose a smaller discount won’t receive any bonus material for their generosity, and I won’t judge anyone who decides to take me to the cleaners. It’s all up to you. Indeed, if you want to become a member at the founding level—a negative discount, of sorts—I welcome you with open arms.
I am sincerely just curious—membership drives are essential to our business strategy, but they don’t have to raise the optimal amount of money in order for this enterprise to survive and grow. If this sale is less successful than past ones, it’ll have been worth it to learn a little bit more about reader psychology, and the value proposition of Off Message.
