New York Focus ([link removed]) (11/07/25) reports: "New York environmental regulators on Friday approved a major Trump-backed underwater gas pipeline in a U-turn for state energy policy. The state Department of Environmental Conservation issued crucial water permits for the Northeast Supply Enhancement project, which it had rejected three times in the past. At the same time, the DEC announced that the even larger Constitution pipeline, slated to cross New York into New England, would not move ahead. Both pipelines were priorities for President Donald Trump, who railed against Governor Kathy Hochul on social media earlier this week for moving too slowly on the projects. NESE is set to be New York’s first new gas pipeline in at least a decade, and by far the state’s largest expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure since passing its flagship climate law in 2019. Climate advocacy groups pounced on the decision, calling it a
betrayal."

(11/07/25) reports: "Not a single country has joined a global clean power alliance launched by Britain and Brazil a year ago, The Times can reveal. Billed by Sir Keir Starmer as an “inverse Opec”, in a nod to the powerful cartel of Saudi Arabia and other major oil-producing countries, the alliance was launched with fanfare at the Cop29 climate conference in Azerbaijan. Starmer and the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced the initiative in a Times oped, describing it as a “bold” attempt to boost renewable energy globally. However, with Starmer having extolled the benefits of the alliance at a leaders summit for Cop30 on Thursday, before the conference opens, it has emerged that no new countries have joined it. The government said it remained a priority to get other countries to join the coalition. The momentum behind the initiative, a Labour manifesto promise, faltered because of what government insiders said was a lack of focus and leadership within Whitehall."

One person's antimony is another person's gold.

(11/08/25) reports: "Until recently, antimony, which is often found in gold mines, was treated as detritus by gold miners. But that began changing last year, when China put in place heavy restrictions on antimony exports, including banning all shipments to the U.S. in December, in retaliation for restrictions Washington put on the export of American technology products to China. That is squeezing defense companies, which use antimony to harden bullets and strengthen armor-penetrating projectiles. Antimony prices have quadrupled from two years ago and supplies are now scarce, just as defense companies need to replenish stockpiles of armaments exhausted by the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. The U.S. hasn’t been a significant miner of antimony for many years. Now, companies are dusting off sites in Alaska and Idaho that last produced antimony during the 20th century. The Defense Department is pouring money into jump-starting projects. In September, it announced $43 million in funding to
accelerate production at an Alaska antimony project."
