*U.S. and Michigan Flags Should Remain Lowered Through Sunset on November 20 Following Passing of Former Vice President Dick Cheney* 

 

*LANSING, Mich. --* In accordance with federal law, U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the State of Michigan should remain lowered to half-staff to honor and remember former Vice President Dick Cheney. Flags should remain at half-staff until sunset on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the day of Vice President Cheney’s interment.  

 

Former Vice President Cheney passed away at the age of 84 in his family home on Monday, November 3, 2025.  

 

The State of Michigan remembers former Vice President Dick Cheney by continuing to lower flags to half-staff. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.   

 

To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.       

 

Flags should be returned to full staff at sunset on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
