Family fire (noun): a shooting that results from someone misusing an unsecured firearm in the home. Unintentional shootings, firearm suicide, and many intentional shootings are all forms of family fire.

Herbert, family fire has devastating consequences for families, communities, and schools nationwide.
As of today, there are an estimated 4.6 million children who live in homes with access to unlocked or unsupervised loaded firearms, and studies show that every day, eight children are unintentionally shot or killed by family fire.
But these tragedies are entirely preventable. Just the simple act of storing a firearm locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition can greatly reduce incidents of family fire.
Here at Stand With Parkland, we’re determined to empower responsible firearm owners with resources to help protect their families from the devastating impacts of family fire. When they’re informed with the right information, firearm owners are more likely to seek out ways to safely secure weapons in the home.
