Supreme Court rejects long-shot effort to overturn same-sex marriage ruling
The court turned away an appeal filed by Kim Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky who was sued after refusing to issue a marriage license to a gay couple. -- NBC News
John,
Today, we’re celebrating a victory for our community: the Supreme Court announced it will not hear the case challenging Obergefell v. Hodges. Marriage equality stands.
This is a moment of relief — and joy. But it’s also a reminder of how fragile our rights can be. Just this year, nine U.S. states introduced legislation supporting the petition to roll back marriage equality. The threat didn’t disappear today; it simply didn’t advance.
What’s protecting our families right now are the LGBTQ+ leaders serving in Virginia, California, Hawaii, Colorado, and across the country — leaders LGBTQ+ Victory Fund helped elect. They’re advancing protections, strengthening equality, and pushing back against efforts to take us backward.
But we can’t slow down. To defend marriage equality and every other hard-won right, we must keep electing more LGBTQ+ champions at every level of government. Will you make a donation today to help us elect and train more LGBTQ+ leaders who will safeguard our freedoms?
Thank you,
LGBTQ+ Victory Fund
