Friend, we just got our first opponent in the race for re-election.

When I first heard the news, I quickly met with my team to discuss our strategy to counter this challenger and win this campaign.

I know that the best way to fight back is to start investing in our outreach right now — not waiting until it’s too late. That means paying for online ads, hiring canvassers and organizers, sending out mailers, growing our contact lists, and more.

But the problem is that the money for additional investments just isn’t our budget right now. So I made a difficult decision, and approved some new investments anyway, because I made a bet that this team would step up and help us afford the campaign we need to run.
