Sisters and
brothers –
Donald Trump‘s move toward oligarchy and authoritarianism has created an
unprecedented moment in modern American history. We must respond in an
unprecedented way. Status quo politics is not good enough.
We need to elect candidates all over this country who have the guts not
only to stand up to Trumpism, but to take on the monied interests of both
parties and fight for a working class that has been ignored for far too
long. We need to elect candidates that understand what working people are
going through, because they’ve lived it.
One of those candidates is Peggy Flanagan who is running for the United
States Senate in Minnesota.
Peggy Flanagan is the daughter of a hard-working single mom and an
organizer who’s spent her career, from her time on the Minneapolis School
Board to her time as Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, fighting for
progressive policies that help working people.
Peggy will have to defeat the monied interest’s candidate for Senate in
this race. She is taking on the corporate establishment, the media
establishment, and the political establishment of both parties. She is
also taking on super-PACs and big money interests like AIPAC who have
unlimited resources to elect their candidates.
She will need our support to win this primary. So today, I am once again
asking for your financial support.

Early donations mean a lot to progressive candidates like Peggy, who are
rejecting campaign cash from wealthy mega-donors.

The political revolution was never about electing just one person, it was
about electing progressive candidates across the country with the guts to
take on the billionaire class of this country.
That’s why I need Peggy in the Senate with me.
Peggy co-chaired the Raise the Wage campaign in Minnesota that increased
the minimum wage and indexed it to inflation — something Washington hasn’t
delivered in over a decade. Peggy knows that the federal minimum wage of
$7.25 an hour is a starvation wage. If you work 40 hours a week, you
should not be living in poverty.
Peggy spent years leading the fight to enact universal paid family and
medical leave in Minnesota. After ten years of organizing, Minnesota
passed that policy under her leadership. As a child who spent years in and
out of the hospital with chronic asthma, Peggy knows first hand that
parents should not get fired when they stay home with a sick kid. Workers
should not have to go to work when they are sick. Mothers and fathers
should have ample time to stay home with their new-born babies.
As the daughter of a hard-working single mom, and someone who relied on
Medicaid to pay her hospital bills, Peggy is ready to fight for Medicare
for All. Americans do not want cuts to Medicaid and the privatization of
Medicare. They understand that health care is a human right, not a
privilege. We have to unrig the system that keeps so many families sick
and in poverty and ensure everyone has healthcare, not just insurance.
Peggy also knows that we have a corrupt campaign finance system which
allows billionaires and Super PACs to buy and sell politicians. As a U.S.
Senator she will vigorously fight to end the disastrous Citizens United
Supreme Court decision which allows Big Money to control our political
process and screw over working people.
She also knows what it takes to win. Peggy has run statewide twice and won
— and is leading in every primary poll. But I don't need to tell you that
running as a progressive in this country is never easy.
So if Peggy is going to win, she needs our help to do that. So I am asking
you to donate to Peggy’s campaign — $27 or whatever you can afford:
$27 because Peggy will be the loud and clear progressive voice we need in
the Senate if we are going to stand up to Trump, protect our democratic
way of life and create an economy that works for working families – not
just the rich.
$27 because Peggy will take on any corporate interest trying to screw over
Americans, including those in the Democratic establishment.
$27 because we are all in this together, and Peggy needs us now if she is
going to take on her corporate-backed opponent and win this race.

When we act collectively we have the ability not only to create a dynamic
progressive movement, but we will be able to transform our nation and
create a government that represents all of us, not just the people on top.
That’s the goal. Let’s do it.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
