Fellow Democrats!
The Blue Wave has begun!

This past week saw many incredible and historic Democratic wins!
Zohran Mamdani won the election for New York City Mayor.
Abigail Spanberger won in Virginia for the Gubernatorial race, making her the new Governor of Virginia.
Mikie Sherrill won the the gubernatorial race in New Jersey, making her the new Governor of New Jersey.
While these were the headline grabbers, there were many other blue wins throughout the country, from the first Indian-American and Muslim woman, Ghazala Hashmi, to win Statewide office in Virginia, a new Democratic Mayor in Pittsburgh, Corey O'Connor, and many other wins, including the passing of Prop 50 in California! Congratulations to every one who ran, it is never easy!

Salon discussion
On Tuesday, October 21st, we held our first "Salon meet". Emily Cohen, from our local radio, 89.1 KHOL, joined us to discuss and explain the impacts of the federal funding cuts to CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) on small local radios, such as KHOL. These cuts have a serious and real impact on our local station, and other small local radio stations throughout the country, as detailed by Emily Cohen, executive director of 89.1 KHOL. Our Chair, Annette Osnos, then led a Q&A session, during which many questions were posed and answered, such as the impact of fundraisers for local radio stations. Emily discussed how the cuts are impacting the type of programming KHOL, and others, can offer. These cuts not only impact programming, they impact our ability to receive information, create and engage in discussion, to be aware of different opinions and issues throughout our town, county, and state.

Town Councilor Jonathan Schechter: 5 questions for the community
Article: Two Quotes; Five Questions; One Future
I chose this essay for the same reason I wrote it: to call attention to what I believe are the five most important questions we in Jackson Hole need to ask ourselves if we are to have any reasonable chance of shaping our own future. As powerful as they were before COVID, the forces of growth and change washing over the Tetons region are even stronger now. As a result, we can no longer take for granted many fundamental qualities about our ecosystem, community, and economy. To address these challenges, we need to confront them head-on. The five questions I pose are an effort to do that:
Question 1. Our ecosystem: Is it still our priority?
Question 2. Our character: What do we value?
Question 3. Champagne tastes; beer budget: What is the proper role of government?
Question 4. Subsidizing local business: Whom shall we house?
Question 5. Gridlock: How much traffic are we willing to put up with?

Shutdown information
39 days and counting
Economic impact of the shutdown in Wyoming:
(source: whitehouse.gov )
As we all know, our Federal government shutdown is continuing. While our National Parks and National Forests are "open", many services are either unavailable or strongly curtailed. You can find more information about our National Park and Forest operations here. Our Air Traffic controllers, and many others in the federal government, are still heavily impacted by this shutdown. If you are one of these employees, or know someone who is, please contact us (email, social media) or your local radio station-KHOL, Wyoming Public Radio, Wyofile, or any other outlet. We would like to document as much of the impact of this situation as possible. We encourage anyone impacted to also contact our elected officials at all levels. Many organizations in Jackson, such as One22 and Hole Food Rescue are able to help with food needs, if you or someone you know is in a food related emergency. The Food Bank of Wyoming is also accepting donations, as are many other charitable organizations throughout Wyoming.

Protest and Calling
Calling
As there is so much going on (honestly, hard to keep up!) we have been pushing the 5calls app on our social media. This app enables you to call your senators and congresspeople, along with providing a script on specific issues. We encourage everyone to use it, your voice is stronger than you think.
Protest recap
Thank you to everyone who came out to the "No Kings" rally! It was a great success, and everyone had a great time. A few pictures below.
