[Surfers Against Sewage logo <[link removed]>] Hi John, You’ve probably seen Special Administration Regime (SAR) popping up in the headlines – but what is it, and why should you care? SAR allows the Government to step in when a vital service – like water – fails, keeping our taps and loos working while a plan to transfer ownership is put in place. And guess who’s first in the queue? Yep – Thames Water , the UK’s biggest (and most broken) water company. 🤡 £20 billion in debt. Environmental targets missed. A one-star performance rating. Thames Water isn’t just failing – it’s the poster child for everything wrong with the industry. 💩 It’s time to flush this system and bring Thames Water into special administration. 🚽
That’s why we took to the streets of London with Citizens UK and other organisations last week – protesting outside DEFRA to demand government action. ✊✊✊ [See what went down <[link removed]>] [Protest outside Defra <[link removed]>] Could SAR fix our broken water system? SAR gives the Government the power to change the rules of the game – if they actually use it. They could hand Thames Water’s licence to a new, not-for-profit body that protects people and planet, not shareholders. It could be the blueprint to finally end sewage pollution for good.
The Government says it’ll clean up our rivers and seas. What happens next will show if that’s action – or just more hot air... 👀 We’ll keep fighting to make sure this broken system is rebuilt to serve people and planet, not profit. 🌍 [Read more on our blog <[link removed]>] [Elite swimmers protesting in the Thames <[link removed]>] Watch the Thames Swim Against Sewage See the sewage crisis in action in a film that exposes a failing water system and its impact on water lovers. From 1–4 September, a team of Olympic and world-class swimmers took on a non-stop, 200km relay down the River Thames – ending right in Westminster’s backyard. This wasn’t just about endurance. It was a direct challenge to those in power to fix a failing system and protect our blue spaces. 📢 The film follows swimmers, SAS campaigners and river defenders as they unite to demand real change. It’s people power in motion – proof that together, we can turn the tide. 🌊 We can’t wait to share it with you. [Join us for the screening <[link removed]>]
