John: When Trump threatened “war” on our cities, Win Without War responded with a Know-Your-Rights campaign to let troops know their options if faced with unethical or illegal orders.

But Trump’s weaponization of the military for unauthorized, unjustified campaigns hasn’t been limited to just our own cities. As we write, the U.S. government is on the brink of war with Venezuela after more than a dozen lethal strikes on boats on its coast. Legal experts agree that those strikes are illegal extrajudicial killings — in other words, the Trump administration has murdered more than 57 people.

To keep resisting Trump’s lawlessness and build enough power to stop a war, we need to take our Know-Your-Rights campaign to the next level. That’s why we just launched a NEW billboard near the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) headquarters in Doral, Florida, the launch point for nearly ALL U.S. forces in Latin America, including the many Navy ships now menacing Venezuela.

When Trump deployed the National Guard into cities as part of his “war from within,” Win Without War sprang into action to defend our communities.

What started with a mobile billboard in Washington, DC, asking troops to reflect on whether this is what they signed up for and informing them of their rights has only grown in the face of Trump’s “war from within” and out. Thanks to the amazing response from supporters like you, we were able to quickly expand our Know-Your-Rights campaign to other cities where Trump deployed troops, Chicago and Memphis, and to two major military installations, Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune, in North Carolina.

Expanding to SOUTHCOM HQ in Florida comes at a critical moment. The command is reportedly in turmoil after the admiral overseeing it abruptly announced his resignation.

Amidst a series of unauthorized, unjustified strikes against boats off the coast of Venezuela, “people are angry,” one official told The Intercept. Another said key personnel at SOUTHCOM are “disillusioned.”
